Nike’s Wheat Mid GORE-TEX/Vibram edition brings a weather-focused build to the familiar Force silhouette. For IKNO, the question is how those construction choices fit an autumn rotation—and where care for a regular leather pair fits alongside them.

THE FORCE CAN CHANGE ITS JOB.
Nike lists the Air Force 1 Mid ’07 GORE-TEX Vibram in Wheat, Total Orange and Black, style IO1875-700. Its product information identifies a full-grain leather upper, waterproof GORE-TEX membrane and Vibram outsole. Those are construction choices, rather than just an autumn colour palette.
The appeal is visible: a warmer upper, darker details and a heavier-looking sole give the familiar shape a boot-like direction. It is a useful reference for anyone who wants an AF1 rotation that extends beyond clear skies. We have not independently tested its waterproofing or grip.
That weather-focused approach also comes in a low-cut option: the Air Force 1 GTX Vibram in Off Noir at BSTN. Its darker palette takes the outfit in a different direction from the Wheat Mid, while BSTN lists a GORE-TEX membrane and Vibram outsole. If the forecast is driving your choice, those construction details matter more than the colour. See the darker GTX pair below.
A protective treatment on an ordinary sneaker is not the same thing as a waterproof membrane built into footwear. Cleaning, surface protection and weather-specific construction solve different problems.
CHOOSE FOR THE DAY YOU HAVE.
Our approach is to build a rotation around the journey, rather than ask one treasured pair to do every job. Start with the material, then the forecast, then how long you will be outside.
WEAR THE FAVOURITE.

CHECK THE UPPER.
Read the care guidance for the exact pair. Smooth leather, suede and fleece need different treatment. Choose a cleaner or protector only when its instructions cover the material, and test a discreet area first.
CHANGE THE PLAN.
For a long exposed route, consider footwear specifically designed for wet conditions. Check the manufacturer’s specifications. A chunky sole, winter colourway or higher collar alone does not prove waterproof performance.
CLEANING STARTS AFTER THE WALK.
Do not turn a small mark into a whole-shoe rescue mission. Remove loose dirt gently, identify the affected material and work locally with a suitable cleaner. Nike’s general care guidance recommends mild cleaning and natural air-drying; suede needs its own approach.
Once the shoe is clean, let it dry naturally before returning it to rotation. Do not rush it onto a heater. If it needs more time, wear another pair. A second option in the cupboard can be more useful than repeatedly trying to make damp shoes ready for tomorrow.

The best autumn rotation still looks like you. For a dry-day outfit, I would start with the brown LV8, dark denim and a grey sweatshirt; let the warmer shoe lead. But style should follow an honest reading of the shoe. Protect a pair because the product and material are compatible. Choose weather-specific footwear because the day calls for it. Neither decision needs a claim that every sneaker can become an all-weather shoe.
